Thanks to Jeff Goins, I am now on Google Plus! Yay!
In this post, I want to invite you to join me on Google Plus, and show you briefly how to add the “Google Plus” icon to your Standard Theme Social Web area (see mine up top)?

Google Plus is now open for anyone to register, and I am convinced it will be a big player in the social networking arena. So what are you waiting for? Sign up for Google Plus now!
Add Google Plus Icon to Standard Theme Social Icons
If you are using the Standard Theme, you can easily add the Google Plus icon to your navigation bar. See mine up top?
This not only lets people know you are on Google Plus, but also invites them to join you on this emerging social network.
Here is a quick guide on adding it.
Get Google Plus Icon Images
First, you need the images. You can scour the web and find your own, and then edit them down to the right size, or just use mine:
To use them, right click on the image, the select “Save As…” and save them to your hard drive somewhere.
Upload Google Plus Icon Images
Next, you need to upload them to your blog. To place them in the proper folder, you will need to use your FTP program.
You will want to place them in the following directory:
You know you will have the right directory because you will also see the Facebook, Digg, Twitter, and other Social networking images in there.
In your Dashboard, click on Appearance and select “Editor.” From the list of files on the right, scroll way down near the bottom and select the “socialnetworking.php” file.
Note: Do not confuse this with “socialnetworking-webkit.php.” The two files are not the same.
One the file is open, figure out where you want the icon to go. I wanted it between my Feedburner Email icon and my Twitter icon. So I find those icons on the list, and pasted the following code in between.
Here is a Screenshot of the inserted code:
You don’t want to inset the code exactly as I have it, because it points people to my Google Plus account. You don’t want that. You want to point people to your Google Plus Account.
So in place of my Google Plus Profile Account URL, you need to put your own. Where is it? Right here:
Here is an explanation of this screenshot:
- Once you create a Google Plus account, login at Google.com, and click on the little Gear in the upper right hand corner.
- In your account settings screen, select “Profile and Privacy.”
- In this screen, you will see your public profile. The blue link with your name is a link to your Google Plus account. Right-click and save this link and then paste it into the code you are inserting into socialnetworking.php.
Once the code is inserted, save your file, and then go check out your front page. The Google Plus icon has been successful added.

See you there!
