Log In to Yahoo Site Explorer
First, you need to login at Yahoo Site Explorer.
Just as with Bing Webmaster tools, you will need to create an account. And just as with Bing Webmaster tools, you can either create a yahoo.com account (or login with it if you already have it), or simply login with your Facebook or Google account information. We live in a world of choice, so you choose! Nike or Reebok? Coke or Pepsi? Crest or Colgate? Ford or Chevy? Yahoo, Facebook, or Google?
Add Site to Yahoo Site Explorer
Once you have logged in, just add your site, just as we did at Google and Bing.
And once again, just like with the other two Webmaster tools, we have to prove that we own the site.
Verify Site Ownership
As with the other Search Engines, there are various ways of verifying site ownership.
Add File to Root Directory via FTP
The first way is quite easy.
Just use and FTP program like FileZilla to upload a file to your websites root directory. And then tell Yahoo to verify that it is there.
Add Meta Tag to Header.php
The next option is easier. Copy the meta tag which Yahoo provides, and paste it into your header.php file. I don’t use this method, but if you want to know where it goes, here is a screenshot.
Remember, if you have used this method with Google and Bing, you should see the other two tags here also. You don’t see my tags here, because I use an even easier method.
Add Meta Tag using WordPress SEO
This option is easier than uploading a file using an FTP program, but the third option, the one I use, is the easiest. The WordPress SEO plugin comes with a built-in way to add the Yahoo meta tag. Just copy the string of letters and numbers in between the quote marks, and paste them into the space provided in the plugin.
See how easy that is? Save the settings and then switch back to Yahoo Site Explorer to verify that the meta tag was inserted properly.
Again, as with the previous two methods, if Yahoo cannot find the meta tag, this is because your WP Super Cache plugin is doing its job. You need to delete the Cache in the “Easy” tab of the WP Super Cache settings, then try to verify the site again.
Add a Site Feed
One thing you can do and should do, is submit a site feed. Later, you can come back and also add a Sitemap if you have one. For now, just add the feed as show below. All you really need to do is add “feed/” in the box, and then click “Add Feed.”
A feed will help Yahoo index your posts and pages as they are published.
Once this is done, there is not much else that needs to be done inside Yahoo Site Explorer. Like Google and Bing, it will do its job all by itself.
Congratulations, you have now submitted your site to the Big Three Search Engines!
That’s like winning the Triple Crown! Well, almost.
